Exciting News for Family Reunification
Starting in 2018, Canadian citizens and permanent residents can begin the process of reuniting with their parents and grandparents in Canada. The Parents and Grandparents Program is set to reopen, offering a fresh opportunity for family sponsorship.
How to Express Interest in Sponsorship
In 2017, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) revamped the application process to enhance fairness and transparency. To begin, prospective sponsors must submit an “Interest to Sponsor” form. This form, available from noon EST on January 2, 2018, until noon February 1, 2018, is the first step in the process.
Random Selection Process
IRCC will use a random selection method to identify potential sponsors who can then formally apply. It’s crucial that only those who meet eligibility requirements submit the form. The 2018 version includes additional questions to help applicants assess their eligibility.
Minister’s Statement on Family Reunification
“Family reunification is a priority for the Government of Canada. On January 2, I invite those who are eligible to sponsor to express their interest to bring their parents and grandparents to Canada. Helping more people reunite with their parents and grandparents in Canada demonstrates the government’s commitment to keeping families together, leading to successful integration and stronger ties to Canada.”
– The Honourable Ahmed Hussen, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship
