IRCC Expands Visa Application Centres in China

From: Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada

Expansion of Canadian Visa Services in China

As of November 17, 2017, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) is broadening its Visa Application Centre (VAC) network in China to accommodate a surge in applications. This year, applications from China have exceeded 500,000, reflecting a 15% increase compared to 2016.

Canada is enhancing flexibility and accessibility for Chinese travelers, showcasing its dedication to fostering cultural exchanges. This week, Canada’s Minister of Immigration, Ahmed Hussen, inaugurated a new VAC in Nanjing, marking the launch of seven additional centers in Chengdu, Hangzhou, Jinan, Kunming, Nanjing, Shenyang, and Wuhan. These join the established VACs in Beijing, Chongqing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Hong Kong.

New Services and Accessibility

Supporting Visa Applicants

The newly opened VACs are pivotal in addressing the rising demand for visas among Chinese residents. They provide comprehensive support throughout the visa application process, with service agents available via phone, email, or in person to assist in local languages and ensure application completeness.

Introducing UnionPay

Beginning early 2018, IRCC will accept UnionPay for payments, a major payment processor in China. This change aims to simplify the process for travelers, thereby enhancing opportunities for economic and cultural exchanges.

Official Statements

“Canada has a long and proud history with China which our department continues to play an integral role in. At IRCC, we are committed to improving client service for applicants and to being more efficient. These improvements will better serve Chinese applicants as we continue to create stronger business and personal ties between our two countries and welcome new immigrants to the Canadian family.”

– The Honourable Ahmed Hussen, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship
