Celebrating Active Citizenship with the Ottawa Senators

Special Citizenship Ceremony at NHL Game
The Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) collaborated with the Ottawa Senators Hockey Club to host a unique citizenship ceremony. This event welcomed 20 families from diverse countries to the Canadian community, just before the Senators squared off against the Calgary Flames.
Welcoming New Canadians
On January 18, 2020, in Ottawa, 20 families from different nations took their oath of citizenship. The new citizens also joined in singing the national anthem with the National Arts Centre Orchestra to kick off the hockey game.
Ismail Ayyoub, a past participant in a similar ceremony, attended as a special guest. Now a celebrated wrestler, Ayyoub won a gold medal at the Pan American Games and actively mentors young athletes, exemplifying active citizenship.
