March 6, 2024—Sudbury, Ontario—The Honourable Marc Miller, Canada’s Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, has introduced new pilot programs to further aid rural and Francophone minority communities. The Rural Community Immigration Pilot and the Francophone Community Immigration Pilot are key steps toward establishing a lasting rural immigration framework.
New Pilot Programs: A Closer Look
Rural Community Immigration Pilot
Scheduled for a fall 2024 launch, this pilot ensures rural areas can continue to access programs to combat labor shortages. It will provide a pathway to permanent residency for newcomers ready to live and work long-term in smaller communities, addressing critical job gaps.
Francophone Community Immigration Pilot
Also launching in fall 2024, this pilot aims to boost French-speaking newcomer numbers in Francophone minority communities outside Quebec. It supports these communities’ economic growth and demographic balance.
The IRCC plans to begin the application process for community participation this spring, with more details forthcoming.
