Mendicino, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, reaffirmed Canada’s dedication to addressing human trafficking, migrant smuggling, and irregular migration. This declaration coincided with the unveiling of several initiatives in Nigeria, coinciding with the eve of the World Day against Trafficking in Persons.<\/p>\n Canadian representatives, along with officials from Nigeria, Switzerland, and various international and civil society organizations, launched initiatives aimed at assisting Nigeria in disrupting trafficking and smuggling operations. Minister Mendicino highlighted Canada’s collaboration with Nigeria through three new projects, facilitated by the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), and ARK.<\/p>\n The IOM is extending the Migration Information and Data Analysis System to key Nigerian airports in Abuja and Lagos. This system bolsters Nigeria\u2019s border control capabilities, aiding in the identification of criminal travelers and potential trafficking cases.<\/p>\n UNODC is partnering with Nigeria to enhance the identification and response to trafficking and smuggling through improved data collection and analysis techniques.<\/p>\n ARK is lending its expertise to strengthen Nigeria\u2019s campaigns against human trafficking and irregular migration.
