The Honourable Lena Metlege Diab, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, declared the extension of special measures for Palestinians currently in Canada.

These measures, initially introduced in December 2023, permit Palestinians in Canada and the foreign national family members of Canadian citizens and permanent residents who left Gaza after October 7, 2023, to apply for fee-exempt permits. These include study permits, open work permits, temporary resident permits, or extensions of their temporary resident status.

Canada’s Commitment to Humanitarian Assistance

Canada is at the forefront of global efforts to provide sanctuary to displaced Gazans. The country offers financial assistance, interim federal health coverage, and comprehensive settlement services for new arrivals. The Canadian government continues to push for their safe exit, although the final decision isn’t Canada’s to make.
